In Country Discoveries
I found a bunch of fun food items when we
went to the market. Some of those items
include nutmeg jelly, spices, mango curry
sauce, pepper sauce, but my favorite of all
was the fresh coconut water.

A crucial connection I made in the country
was the connection between vital signs and
overall health. In clinicals in the states, I tend to become irritable if i am I end up taking vitals the whole shift. I want to use the new nursing skills I have learned, such as inserting IVs and catheters.
This experience has taught me the significance of vital signs. I never understood how key vitals are as predictors of health status. This new understanding was found as I measured countless high blood pressures. Many people in the Unites States are able to manage their blood pressure and diabetes with medicine. The majority of the patients I interacted with were non-compliant with their medication regimen. Many Grenadians live with unmanaged chronic conditions. This not only was frustrating to me, but also perplexing. Patient after patient claimed, "Oh, I forgot to take my medication this morning." The overall lesson I learned from this experience is that people will not always listen to your advice no matter how evidenced based and well researched it may be. All I can do is teach to the best of my ability and plant the idea in their mind.
